Saklayen’s Continuous Month-Long Overnight Stay at Pori’s Residence!

The government has initiated action to send Md. Golam Saklayen, former Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) and currently Additional Superintendent of Police, into forced retirement. This decision comes after allegations of a close relationship with actress Pori Moni and violation of the code of conduct were proven against him.

Related sources have informed that Home Advisor Salahuddin Ahmed has already signed the summary of the prepared gazette notification regarding this matter. For subsequent approval, it will be sent to the President’s office via the Prime Minister’s Office. A formal gazette notification will be issued after the President’s order.

Golam Saklayen was the investigating officer in the case filed against businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud in the 2021 Dhaka Boat Club incident. It has been mentioned that his acquaintance and communication with Pori Moni began through the course of that case.

The document sent by the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Public Service Commission (PSC) states that a close relationship subsequently developed between the two, and Saklayen regularly visited Pori Moni’s residence. It has been claimed that an analysis of Call Detail Records (CDRs), mobile messages, and social media conversations obtained from the LIC branch of Police Headquarters revealed information about their personal relationship during the investigation.

The document further mentions that on August 1, 2021, while Saklayen’s wife was absent from home, Pori Moni visited his government residence in Rajarbagh and stayed there until the night of the following day. The investigation report also stated that CCTV footage confirmed this visit.

Following the allegations, Golam Saklayen was withdrawn from the DB, and a three-member investigation committee was formed. After the investigation confirmed the veracity of the allegations, on June 13, 2024, the PSC’s opinion was sought regarding his forced retirement. The process for a final decision has begun recently after receiving the Commission’s opinion.

The Ministry of Home Affairs document stated that as a responsible police officer, Saklayen’s conduct was not consistent with the disciplinary and ethical standards of a government employee. Despite being married and a father of one child, he has been accused of an extramarital affair, participation in private events, and misuse of his government residence, which, as stated in the report, has tarnished the government’s image.

When asked about the matter, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Kazi Mohammad Saiful Islam said he had no latest information on the issue. Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Talukder, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry’s Discipline Branch, declined to comment on the matter.
