Approval of 3 New Upazilas and 1 Thana

The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganization (NICAR) has approved three new upazilas and one new police station. The three upazilas are ‘Fatikchhari Uttar’ in Chattogram, ‘Bangra’ in Cumilla, and ‘Pagla’ in Mymensingh. The new police station is ‘Halda’ in Chattogram.

Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu stated that this approval was granted at the 121st NICAR meeting, presided over by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, held at the Cabinet Division’s meeting room in the Secretariat on Wednesday (July 1).

He informed that these upazilas and police stations were approved at the NICAR meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Additionally, it was decided to include parts of the Narayanganj and Gazipur district project areas, which fall under the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Eastern New Town Project, into Dhaka district.

As per NICAR’s proposal, the three new upazilas are ‘Fatikchhari Uttar’ Upazila, formed with 6 unions from Fatikchhari Upazila of Chattogram district; ‘Bangra’ Upazila, created by dividing Muradnagar Upazila of Cumilla district; and ‘Pagla’ Upazila, comprising 8 unions from Pagla Thana of Gaffargaon Upazila of Mymensingh district.

Furthermore, ‘Halda Thana’ has been formed by dividing Hathazari Thana of Chattogram.

Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, Road Transport Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam, Housing Minister Zakaria Taher, State Minister for Public Administration Abdul Bari, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister A.B.M. Abdus Sattar, along with secretaries from relevant ministries, were present at this NICAR meeting chaired by Tarique Rahman.
