A total of 99 judges, including 44 District Judges, 26 Additional District Judges, 25 Joint District Judges, two Senior Civil Judges, and two Civil Judges, currently serving in various courts, have been transferred.
In consultation with the Supreme Court, the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law issued six separate gazette notifications in this regard on Thursday (September 17). Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, confirmed the matter at night.
Among the transferred judges, 17 Joint District and Sessions Judges have been appointed as Chief Legal Aid Officers in various districts. Additionally, several District Judges and Additional District Judges have been transferred to law-related positions in various ministries, the Law and Justice Division, the Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Election Commission Secretariat.
At the District Judge level, Swapan Kumar Sarkar, judge of the Sylhet Speedy Trial Tribunal, has been appointed as Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment; Md. Masud Ali, judge of the Jhenaidah Land Survey Appeal Tribunal, as Deputy Secretary of the Law and Justice Division; and Md. Ferdous Wahid, judge of Pabna Family Appeal Court, as Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Labor and Employment. District Judge Sonia Ahmed, attached to the Law and Justice Division, has been transferred to the post of Deputy Solicitor.
At the Additional District Judge level, Md. Humayun Kabir has been made Additional District and Sessions Judge of Dhaka; Mosha. Marzia Khatun, Chief Judicial Magistrate of Nilphamari; Satyabrata Shikdar, Additional District and Sessions Judge of Jhenaidah; and Mohammad Sultan Uddin Pradhan, Additional District and Sessions Judge of Chuadanga. Furthermore, Enamul Haque Basunia has been appointed Chief Judicial Magistrate of Thakurgaon; Md. Matiur Rahman, of Cumilla; Shafi Uddin, of Satkhira; and Md. Sultan Mahmud, of Panchagarh.
In this tier, Md. Nuru Mia has been appointed Additional District and Sessions Judge of Netrokona; Md. Zahir Uddin, Additional District and Sessions Judge of Kishoreganj; Md. Shahidul Islam, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Barishal; Tahera Anwar and Md. Shamim Sufi, Additional District and Sessions Judges of Jessore; Md. Nahidur Rahman, Additional District and Sessions Judge of Gazipur; Fahmida Khatun, Additional District and Sessions Judge of Madaripur; and Raihanul Islam, Additional District and Sessions Judge of Lakshmipur.
At the Joint District Judge level, Mohammad Nurul Huda Chowdhury has been appointed Joint District and Sessions Judge of Kalapara Court in Patuakhali; Md. Mosharraf Hossain, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Panchagarh; Israt Jahan, Joint District and Sessions Judge of Habiganj; Md. Asadul Islam, Joint District and Sessions Judge of Dhaka; Md. Mehedi Hasan, Joint District and Sessions Judge of Sirajganj; Haridas Kumar, District Judicial Administrator of Sylhet; and Iqbal Hasan, Joint District Judge of Rangpur Land Survey Tribunal.
As Chief Legal Aid Officers, Rahela Parveen has been appointed in Kishoreganj; Fatema Tuj Zohra Munna in Munshiganj; Md. Tareq Aziz in Narsingdi; Jannatul Rafin Sultana in Joypurhat; Konok Barua in Kurigram; Fatima Khatun in Dinajpur; Sabina Yasmin in Magura; Tariqul Islam in Jhenaidah; Md. Ariful Islam in Kushtia; Asma Mahmud in Chapainawabganj; Tania Islam in Dhaka Metropolitan Area; Nasima Khatun in Mymensingh; Mohammad Daud Hasan in Cox’s Bazar; Md. Hasibul Hasan in Jessore; Sharmin Sultana Sumi in Rajbari; and Shri Gyan Tanchangya in Bandarban.
Furthermore, transfers have also occurred at the Senior Civil Judge and Civil Judge levels. Md. Zahidur Rahman, Senior Judicial Magistrate of Meherpur, has been appointed Senior Assistant Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat; Abdullah Al Hasib, Senior Civil Judge of Sandwip, Chattogram, as Assistant Director of the Bangladesh Legal Aid Services Directorate; Masuma Rahman, Civil Judge of Gazipur, as Law Officer of the Ministry of Labor and Employment; and S.M. Shamim Reza, Civil Judge of Noakhali, as Judicial Magistrate of Jhalokati.
The notification states that the transferred judges must hand over their current duties to the designated officers and report to their new workplaces by September 22. However, judges who are undergoing training or on leave must report to their new workplaces after the completion of their training or leave.
