Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to depart Dhaka tomorrow (September 21) for New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. He will be accompanied by 35 delegates during this visit. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that regular discussions are underway with relevant US authorities to ensure the security of the Prime Minister and his entourage.
These details were disclosed by Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam at a press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (September 20).
When asked about the Prime Minister’s delegation, the Foreign Secretary stated that the UN agenda would be the primary focus of this visit. The Prime Minister’s delegation consists of 35 members. Among them, the Foreign Minister and Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to Washington will join the Prime Minister in New York from the United States. Additionally, four ministers and two political figures will be part of the Prime Minister’s entourage.
Regarding the security of the Prime Minister and his delegation, the Foreign Secretary mentioned that appropriate security measures have been taken. The United States also bears responsibility for the security of visiting representatives. Regular discussions are ongoing with relevant US authorities to ensure everyone’s safety.
In response to a question about the duration of the Prime Minister’s stay in New York, Asad Alam Siam said that the Prime Minister would remain there for as long as necessary for an effective visit. He emphasized that the proper utilization of time is more crucial than the length of the visit.
It has been learned that among the Prime Minister’s delegates are Dr. Golam Mohiuddin, Secretary General of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh, and Saiful Haque, General Secretary of the Revolutionary Workers’ Party. Also accompanying him will be Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, and Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to deliver his speech in Bengali at the UN General Assembly session on September 24. He is expected to depart from New York for Dhaka the following day, September 25.
