BDT 58,500 Crore Proposals Approved for Two Metro Rail Lines

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has approved proposals for the procurement of goods and services worth BDT 58,500 crore for the construction of various infrastructures for two additional metro rail projects in Dhaka. These works will be carried out under Line-1 and Line-5 of the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project.

These proposals were approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, held on Thursday (October 1) at the Secretariat, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury. At the same meeting, a proposal to import an additional 260,000 tonnes of fertilizer on an emergency basis to tackle the crisis was also approved.

During the meeting, procurement proposals for the civil works of four packages of Line-1 and one package of Line-5 were approved. Additionally, procurement proposals for two more packages of Line-1 and one package of Line-5 North route have been recommended for approval.

Under package CP-06 of Line-1, a 5.182-kilometer underground route will be constructed from the northern end of Badda Station to Airport Station. This will include two tunnels and three underground stations: Airport, Airport Terminal-3, and Khilkhet. The cost for this work, including VAT and taxes, will be BDT 11,590.58 crore.

Package CP-09 involves the construction of tracks and the installation of electrical facilities. The estimated cost for this work is BDT 11,065.58 crore. The joint venture of India’s Larsen & Toubro and Sumitomo has been recommended for this work. Their bid is 49.92% higher than the government’s estimate.

Package CP-10 of Line-1 will involve the installation of signaling and telecommunication systems, platform screen doors, and asset management systems. This will cost BDT 6,446.65 crore. India’s Larsen & Toubro has been recommended as the lowest bidder. Their bid is 50.89% higher than the government’s estimate.

Additionally, package CP-02 will cover the construction of Line-1’s depot, workshop, stabling shed, operation management center, and technical management center. This work will cost BDT 4,285 crore.

Meanwhile, package CP-03 of Line-5 will involve the construction of a total of 6.50 kilometers of elevated viaducts from Hemayetpur to Aminbazar and from Notun Bazar onwards to Bhatara. Additionally, five elevated stations will be constructed at Hemayetpur, Baliarpur, Bilamalia, Aminbazar, and Bhatara. This work will cost BDT 2,671 crore.

Furthermore, proposals for the construction of the main line and stations from the northern end of Rampura Station to Notun Bazar under Line-1’s CP-04 package, and the construction of a 5.007-kilometer main line and stations under the CP-07 package, have been recommended for approval.

Package CP-02 of Line-5 North route will involve the civil works and building construction for the depot. The original contract value for this package is BDT 1,848 crore.
