Eight engineering students from Tamil Nadu have died in Kerala, India, after a private car collided with the rear of a stationary truck parked on the side of the road. The accident occurred around 11:30 PM on Friday in the Kaipamangalam area of Thrissur district.
Police stated that the private car was travelling from Guruvayoor towards Kodungallur. En route, the car lost control and forcefully struck the stationary truck from behind, which was parked on the roadside. The private car was severely damaged in the impact.
Upon receiving news of the accident, local residents came forward to assist in the rescue operation. Later, police and fire service personnel arrived at the scene and began rescue efforts. Firefighters cut open a part of the car to extricate two individuals trapped inside.
According to police information, all eight occupants of the car were students of an engineering college in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. Seven of them died on the spot. The severely injured eighth person was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Police are investigating why the car lost control at the time of the accident, whether there was any negligence on the part of the driver, and if there are any other underlying causes.
