Dhaka wants to further strengthen Bangladesh’s relations with India, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir stated. He mentioned that parliamentary committees are reviewing the agreements signed between the two countries. Bangladesh is also keen on a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of India.
The State Minister for Foreign Affairs made these remarks at a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (September 13) afternoon.
Humayun Kabir said that the government wants to build a new and effective relationship between India and Bangladesh. Issues concerning the killing of civilians on the border and their safety are also being discussed with India through diplomatic channels.
Meanwhile, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs remarked that the appointment process of Saima Wazed Putul for the post of Regional Director for WHO’s South-East Asia Region was not conducted properly. He also informed that Bangladesh is supporting the Maldivian candidate for the new appointment.
Regarding Saima Wazed’s appointment, Humayun Kabir stated that there were flaws in the appointment process of Saima Wazed, daughter of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He further commented that the matter was “shameful” for the United Nations.
The State Minister for Foreign Affairs also informed that Prime Minister Tareque Rahman will travel to the United States on September 21 to attend the United Nations General Assembly session. During his visit, he will hold sideline meetings with leaders from various countries. Discussions on important issues, including the Rohingya crisis, may take place during these meetings.
Furthermore, Humayun Kabir mentioned that the government is working with several countries, including the United Kingdom, to repatriate laundered money back to the country.
