A series of cocktail explosions have rocked various key locations across the capital. On the same day, a passenger bus parked in front of Kafrul Police Station was also set on fire. These incidents occurred from Friday (September 18) afternoon until late night, spanning areas including Jatrabari, Malibagh, Agargaon, Mohakhali, Babubazar, Bongobazar, Gulistan, and Mogbazar.
In connection with the cocktail explosions, a rickshaw puller was injured in Jatrabari. However, police have yet to identify any individuals involved in these incidents.
According to police and local sources, two consecutive cocktail explosions occurred in front of Fortune Shopping Mall in Malibagh after Friday’s Juma prayers. No immediate casualties were reported.
Later, around 6 PM, separate explosions took place in Mohakhali and Agargaon. Two successive cocktail explosions occurred in the Mohakhali area. At almost the same time, another cocktail explosion was reported on the road adjacent to the Bangladesh Betar Bhaban in Agargaon.
Around 7:40 PM, locals heard the sound of three cocktail explosions in front of the main gate of Jatrabari Police Station, injuring a rickshaw puller.
Jatrabari Police Station’s Duty Officer SI Md. Hasanur stated that multiple explosion sounds were heard in front of the station’s main gate. Initially, these are believed to be cocktail explosions, and an investigation is underway to ascertain further details.
Following this, another cocktail explosion occurred near Mogbazar Chowrasta Jame Masjid around 9:10 PM. Additionally, reports of cocktail explosions were received from Babubazar, Bongobazar, and Gulistan areas.
Police stated that efforts are ongoing to identify those involved in these explosions across the capital. The actual cause of the explosions and the identities of those behind them are being investigated.
Bus Set Ablaze in Front of Kafrul Police Station
Meanwhile, around 9:30 PM on Friday, a passenger bus parked in front of Kafrul Police Station was set on fire.
Kafrul Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Zahirul Islam confirmed the bus fire incident. He said, “A bus parked in front of the station caught fire. Locals helped extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is not yet known.”
A video circulated on social media shows a passenger bus belonging to the Mirpur Super Link Owners’ Association engulfed in flames. The bus registration number is Dhaka Metro-B 11-7237.
Previous Cocktail Explosions in the Capital
Earlier, on Tuesday (September 15), three cocktail explosions occurred in the Dhaka University area around 10:45 PM. First, two consecutive explosions took place near the Jagannath Hall gate. A short while later, another cocktail explosion occurred in the TSC area.
Additionally, on the same day at noon, a cocktail explosion occurred in the Supreme Court area, launched from a moving motorcycle. The report mentions that this explosion took place in front of the Supreme Court Chief Justice’s gate immediately after the announcement of the death penalty verdict for seven individuals, including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, whose party activities were reportedly banned during the July mass uprising in connection with a case of crimes against humanity.
