Galle Claims First LPL Championship, Defeating Jaffna Kings

Galle Gallants have won the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 season for the first time. The team secured the historic championship by defeating Jaffna Kings by 5 wickets in the final.

In the final held at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, Jaffna Kings won the toss and opted to bat first. However, against the brilliant bowling of Galle Gallants, they were bundled out for just 123 runs, losing all their wickets in 19.3 overs.

Chasing a target of 124 runs, Galle, despite losing a few early wickets, reached the target with controlled batting. They scored 126 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 15.5 overs, securing a 5-wicket victory with 25 balls to spare.

With this victory, Galle Gallants ended their long wait for an LPL title. Previously runners-up on multiple occasions, this marks their first-ever championship. A grand celebration erupted at the Premadasa Stadium following this historic win.
