Mother Wins Marathon Barefoot to Fund Daughter’s Education

In a testament to fierce willpower and an unwavering mother’s dedication to her child’s future, poverty and adversity were overcome. A 47-year-old mother, dressed in a saree and running barefoot, left younger competitors behind to win a marathon, all to secure funds for her daughter’s education.

This incredible feat was achieved by Ramabai Ranvir, a resident of Ambajogai in Beed district, Maharashtra, India. According to international media reports, a marathon titled ‘Amrit Daud’ (Amrit Run) was organized by the Kholeswar Educational Complex of the Bharatiya Shiksha Prasarak Sanstha, as part of their Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. The competition, which started from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk and concluded at Bhagyanagar Chowk, saw participation from many local youths.

Like everyone else, Ramabai registered for the competition wearing a simple saree and slippers on her feet.

However, the entire scene changed immediately after the whistle blew.

Trouble arose just a short distance into the run as her simple slippers repeatedly came off her feet on the uneven road. Seeing her pace slow down, she didn’t hesitate for a moment, took off her slippers, and began her dream run barefoot on the stony and rough path.

Ignoring the sharp stones and pain under her feet, Ramabai overtook one young competitor after another to be the first to cross the finish line. The spectators and organizers present were overwhelmed with emotion witnessing the indomitable spirit and victory of this 47-year-old woman. Ramabai announced that the entire prize money of 3,000 rupees, which she won barefoot, would be dedicated to her daughter’s education expenses.
