Calling for the acceptance of public demands, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and opposition leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that the current eight-point demand could transform into nine or ten points in the future. Moreover, it could become a one-point demand at any time, in the nation’s necessity.
He made these remarks on Saturday (September 19) morning at the inaugural rally of the 11-party alliance’s Dhaka-Rangpur Long March, held at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital.
Shafiqur Rahman said, “When it turns into a one-point demand, the situation will be very dire.” He urged to learn from the recent past and accept the public’s demands before facing such a situation.
He added that if the demands are not met, no amount of intimidation will work. He also commented that they would not care for anything.
The Jamaat Ameer said, “Many have lost their temper.” He also noted that some signs of this have been observed in the capital for the past two days. He called upon relevant parties to try and accept the public’s demands instead of getting frustrated and losing their cool.
He further stated that they have not taken to the streets with any partisan demands. They are on the ground with the demands of 18 crore people. Claiming that the public is with the 11 parties, he declared that they would return home only after their demands are met.
At the rally, Dr. A.H.M. Hamidur Rahman Azad, Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat, former Member of Parliament, and coordinator of the 11-party alliance, delivered the inaugural speech, while Dr. Rezaul Karim, Central Executive Council Member of Jamaat-e-Islami and Secretary of Dhaka North Metropolitan, moderated the event.
Additionally, speakers at the rally included Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam, LDP Chairman and former Minister Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed Bir Bikrom, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Ameer Allama Mamunul Haque, Jamaat Secretary General Miah Golam Parwar, and other top leaders of the 11-party alliance.
