A person was seen rolling a suspected marijuana-like substance in front of other passengers on a moving subway train in New York. The scene was captured on Thursday (September 24) while traveling from Jamaica, Queens, towards the World Trade Center in Manhattan.
The video, recorded on a mobile phone, shows the person sitting on a seat in the moving train, placing a green, dry plant-based substance onto a small paper. He then neatly arranged and began to roll it. Several passengers were present around him at the time.
Although the person was seen openly preparing the roll in the video, no significant reaction from the surrounding passengers was observed. However, the recorded footage did not show him consuming it.
Based on the video, it was not independently possible to verify whether the substance was marijuana or cannabis.
In New York State, it is legal for individuals aged 21 or older to possess and personally use a specified amount of cannabis. However, there are location-based restrictions on its use and smoking. Smoking is prohibited inside trains and stations within New York’s public transportation system.
The New York City Subway is one of the world’s busiest public transportation networks. Every day, a large number of tourists, alongside local residents, use it. Such a public display on a crowded moving train brings to light questions about the limits of cannabis use in public on the city’s mass transit and passenger comfort.
