Amirul Islam, New York: Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has attended the inaugural ceremony of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
On Tuesday, September 22, US local time, he participated alongside heads of state and government from various countries at the event organized at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Earlier, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, participated in the welcome breakfast hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres. This breakfast was arranged at the UN Headquarters on Tuesday at 7:30 AM local time in honor of world leaders and their accompanying delegations.
A Turkish Airlines flight, carrying Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and a high-level delegation, landed at John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in New York on Monday at 6:20 PM local time.
The Prime Minister was welcomed at the airport by Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Irene Khan, and Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the United States, Tariq Md. Ariful Islam.
On the occasion of the Prime Minister’s arrival, BNP leaders, activists, and expatriate Bangladeshis gathered in front of the ‘Hyatt Grand Central New York’ hotel in New York with banners, posters, and festoons. They welcomed the Prime Minister with rallies and slogans. The Prime Minister also responded to their greetings with a smile and a wave of his hand.
The high-level delegation led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman includes, in addition to his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, State Ministers for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir and Shama Obaid Islam, and State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque.
