Prime Minister Tareq Rahman, currently visiting New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), participated in a breakfast meeting with representatives of international charitable, philanthropic, and humanitarian aid organizations.
The meeting took place on Wednesday (September 23) at 8:30 AM local time at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations.
Representatives from several leading global philanthropic and humanitarian aid organizations attended the meeting. These included the Gates Foundation, Visa Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, International Rescue Committee (IRC), and Rotary International, among others.
This meeting was held as one of the significant parts of the Prime Minister’s New York visit agenda.
The meeting provided an opportunity to highlight Bangladesh’s stance on critical issues such as global humanitarian crises, international cooperation, climate change, sustainable development, and economic cooperation, within the context of the ongoing UNGA session.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on strengthening international partnerships in social and economic development, humanitarian assistance, and technology-driven initiatives in Bangladesh.
Discussions also covered expanding the scope of charitable and humanitarian cooperation globally and fostering effective partnerships for developing countries.
The cooperation of international philanthropic and humanitarian aid organizations is particularly crucial for Bangladesh. There is an opportunity to undertake new initiatives through partnerships with these organizations in poverty reduction, health, education, social protection, technology, climate resilience, and humanitarian crisis response.
Following the breakfast meeting, the Prime Minister is scheduled to participate in a high-level side event on the Rohingya crisis at the UN Headquarters. Titled ‘A New Call for Sustainable Solutions to Crisis: From Protracted Displacement to Justice and Accountability,’ this event will emphasize sustainable solutions to the Rohingya crisis, justice and accountability, and the necessity of international cooperation for the safe and sustainable repatriation of displaced Rohingyas to Myanmar.
Additionally, the Prime Minister is slated to attend a high-level meeting today on ‘Climate Action and the Just Transition’.
Prime Minister Tareq Rahman will deliver Bangladesh’s statement during the general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly on September 24. This will be his first address in the UN general debate as Prime Minister.
Humanitarian crises, climate change, sustainable development, international cooperation, and the Rohingya crisis are receiving special emphasis in the Prime Minister’s New York visit agenda.
