Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the historic Mecca Agreement, signed last month between Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, is primarily a ‘defensive military alliance’ and there are no plans for its expansion at this moment.
On Thursday (September 10), during a regular weekly briefing, the spokesperson for the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided this explanation in response to a question about how Pakistan would counter recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia under the terms of the agreement.
The spokesperson clarified that the agreement was primarily drafted with an emphasis on defense and security, and no decision has yet been made to include any other new countries.
