A review meeting on environmental pollution control was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tareque Rahman.
The meeting took place on Wednesday (September 9) morning at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister directed law enforcement agencies to be stricter in curbing the uncontrolled use of polythene and plastic. Concurrently, he instructed the concerned ministries, divisions, and agencies to properly discharge their responsibilities in this regard.
The meeting reviewed the implementation progress of various government initiatives aimed at reducing environmental pollution, including increasing the use of environment-friendly block bricks, controlling air, water, soil, and noise pollution, and waste management. Future courses of action were also discussed.
Present at the meeting were Sheikh Robiul Alam, Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping; Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives; Farhad Hossain Azad, State Minister for Water Resources; and Sheikh Faridul Islam, State Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.
Also attending the meeting were Nasimul Ghani, Cabinet Secretary; A B M Abdus Sattar, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister; Md. Abdus Salam, Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation; Dr. Saimum Parvez, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Affairs); along with senior officials from relevant ministries, divisions, and agencies.
