State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir has stated that the dates for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to India have not yet been finalized. However, he mentioned that discussions between the two countries regarding the visit are ongoing.
He made these remarks on Saturday (September 5) while speaking with television journalists at a hotel in Sylhet.
The State Minister for Foreign Affairs said, “Discussions regarding the Prime Minister’s visit to India are ongoing. However, the dates for the visit have not yet been set. There is no possibility of the Prime Minister’s visit to India before the United Nations General Assembly session.”
Regarding relations with India, Humayun Kabir stated that despite thousands of issues with India, the path of discussion remains open. As a neighboring country, maintaining good relations with India is essential.
Speaking about the energy sector, he remarked, “One can understand how a psychopathic corruption can be carried out by looking at the energy sector.” However, he also stated that the Prime Minister is giving utmost importance to the energy sector. The State Minister mentioned that the government is sincerely working to resolve the crisis in the energy sector.
Regarding Bangladesh’s potential involvement in the Mecca Agreement, Humayun Kabir said that discussions are underway. He added that Bangladesh joining it would not be unusual, as many countries are currently involved in multiple security alliances.
He stated, “Wherever it is necessary to go based on national interest, we will go there.”
The State Minister for Foreign Affairs also stated that there is no pressure regarding the purchase of Boeing aircraft from the United States. He said, “No one is putting any pressure to buy Boeing. Boeing aircraft are being purchased from the US because of the country’s demand. More aircraft will be bought in the future if needed.”
Regarding the export of manpower to Malaysia, Humayun Kabir said that the syndicate during the Awami League tenure had negatively impacted manpower export to that country. The current government has broken that syndicate. Manpower will be exported to Malaysia in phases.
